These days we are exposed to so many harsh chemicals, and many people are beginning to wonder if the products that contain these substances are in fact as good for us as the advertising claims. Various skin conditions, such as acne, are increasingly recognized as symptoms of an imbalance in the way we live, leading many people to begin their search for a natural acne treatment that includes healthy eating and regular exercise. But for those of us whose skin requires a little further help — are there any natural acne treatments available that can help us improve our skin?A well balanced diet, accompanied by some regular light exercise, are the first tools to help us bring our body back into balance, and are thus two of the best natural acne remedies around. While things like poor diet do not directly cause acne, taking care of our general health provides our bodies with the tools it needs to fight back against conditions like these, making general health optimization possibly the best acne cure of all. It makes sense to take steps to free your body from having to deal with the pressures of modern living, such as stress and other toxic factors. Healthy eating and relaxation will lead to a definite improvement in your health, and as a result, in the appearance of your skin.If your body needs a little extra help in your natural acne treatment, there are various products sitting in your kitchen right now that can help. Some acne sufferers have found that the application of natural lemon juice to their skin has helped, while others have found that oatmeal makes a great natural facial cleanser. If you prefer to treat your skin with a pre-prepared product, look for one that contains natural oils, as these work in harmony with your skin. Tea Tree oil, for example, is a wonderful astringent that can speed the healing process of a pimple, while vitamin E helps in the healing of scars. Some patients have found that ingesting certain of the food in their kitchen aggravates their skin, so it makes sense to make a list of these foods and avoid them when you can. Work in harmony with the natural products around you and you will find that a natural acne treatment can be more gently effective than anything you might buy in a drug store.Read More Health Acne Article

Basics of acne treatment
a) Topical agents- Acne can be treated effectively with topical agents, although the response sometimes is very slow.
b) Cosmetics- Abstain from cosmetics causing skin irritation. Use water-based and non-comedogenic cosmetics. Avoid greasy ointments and vegetable oils, parabens, lanolin, glycol, alcohol, petroleum oils and oleic acid in cosmetics.
c) Oils- Oils, like coconut oil, jojoba oil, lavender oil (soothes and heals scars) and tea tree oil (fights infection due to it’s antiseptic and anti-bacterial properties) are good for acne.
c) Diet- Avoid fried, greasy and sweet foods and foods with iodine (fish and iodized salt). Include extra doses of vitamin A in your diet after consulting a dietician.
d) Cleansing and exfoliating- Develop a regular habit of skin cleansing. Remove all your make-up at bedtime. Exfoliate with a gentle scrub 3-4 times per week.
e) Hydration- Drink 8-10 glasses of water throughout the day. Increase intake of water rich fruits and vegetables like cucumber, melon etc. Water flushes out toxins from the body and opens up blocked pores.
f) Humidity- Avoid excessive humid conditions like saunas or cooking in a poorly ventilated kitchen.
g) Picking- Do not pick the pimples and blackheads.
h) Stress- Beat stress. Try the relaxation and deep breathing techniques of yoga.
i) Sun- Avoid unnecessary sun exposure. Use proper protection like a sunscreen.
j) Exercise- Exercise to relieve stress and improve blood circulation to fight acne-causing bacteria more efficiently.
Treatment of different types of acne:
A) Mild acne:
Topical agents like gels and lotions are best for mild acne. For convincing improvement, it might take several weeks of continuous use. Suitable topical agents might be-
a) Benzoyl peroxide (cream, lotion or gel)- Due to excess oil secretion, the pores are clogged and become nests for bacteria which is responsible for inflammation and swelling. This medication eradicates the bacteria and removes dead cells from the skin’s surface.
b) Retinoic acid- This is a very mild topical agent and in some cases might take as long as over a month to show results. At first it aggravates the acne and then slowly treats it by removing the dead cells.
c) Sulfur- This medication helps to heal blemishes.
d) Salicylic acid- This medication cleans up the pores, removes dirt and oil and is specially effective for treatment of blackheads.
e) Azelaic acid- (non-toxic and very mild) Due to it’s antibacterial properties, this medicine attacks the bacteria that causes acne, reduces inflammation with it’s free radicals and restores the skin’s structure. It also removes persistent dark spots left behind by acne.
B) Moderate acne:
In addition to the above-mentioned medicines, this type of acne needs some oral antibiotics which are-
a) Ibuprofen- This medicine is non-steroidal and fights inflammation.
b) Isotretinoin- This drug, derived from vitamin A, is very effective in fighting persistent or relapsing acne and scars made by acne. It markedly reduces sebum production, kills acne-producing bacteria and combats inflammation. If sole use of topical agents fail, then this medication can be used in combination.
c) Spironolactone- This medicine, an anti-androgen, has a direct effect on the sebaceous gland reducing sebum production and comedone formation. It is generally prescribed for females.
d) Tetracycline- This antibiotic kills acne bacteria and is quite effective for cystic acne but not for blackheads.
e) Doxycycline- This antibiotic is used for killing acne bacteria. It is generally more effective than tetracycline.
C) Severe acne:
Individuals with severe acne need help from a dermatologist and also oral medications. It takes quite a long time to determine whether it is moderate or severe acne. Accordingly determining the treatment method is also delayed.
First, oral isotretinoin is tried with the patient. If no positive result is shown within the next few weeks, then high dosage of oral antibiotics or anti-androgens (in case of females) can be used for long term, sometimes a year to treat this kind of acne.
Some other treatment options include:
1. Expression of comedones by diathermy.
2. Brief exposure to sunlight. The anti-inflammatory properties of the ultra violet rays of the sun might help.
3. Extreme cases of acne nodules can be treated by intra-lesional steroid injections.
4. Phototherapy with blue and red light reduces inflammation.
5. Hormone treatment has been known to reduce acne.
6. The freezing treatment (cryotherapy) is useful to check spread of surface skin lesions by using cryogens like carbon dioxide snow or liquid nitrogen. This technique also checks future eruptions.
7. Skin resurfacing techniques like dermabrasion can help in evening of facial scars and lesions.
8. Certain affordable home remedies with lasting effects have proved to be quite effective in treating acne.
a) Sandalwood powder- Add a few drops of water to half a tablespoon of the powder. Apply all over the face. Avoid eye area. Let dry. Rinse. This fights acne and blemishes.
b) Almond meal and lemon rind- Make a facial scrub with 2 tablespoon almond meal, 1 tablespoon ground lemon rind and 3-4 tablespoon milk. Gently scrub your face and get rid of excess oil.
c) Clay mask- Mix 2 tablespoons of green clay with 2 drops of lemon juice, 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 tablespoon of yogurt and 2 drops of lavender oil. Make a paste with water. Apply all over the face. Avoid eye area. Let dry. Rinse. Clay mask gives maximum benefit to the oily skin for it’s deep cleansing properties.
d) Cedarwood and sandalwood oil- Mix 2-3 drops of these two oils and gently massage over the face area. The combination of these two oils has a soothing effect, is an excellent skin conditioner for oily skin and treats acne and eczema.
e) Face mask- Take the white part from an egg. With it, mix 2 tablespoon clay/kaolin, 1 tablespoon oats, 1 tablespoon cornflower and enough rose water to make a paste. Add lavender oil and/or juniper berry oil. Mix well. Apply all over the face. Avoid eye area. Let dry. Rinse. Enjoy your soft, oil-free skin.

Do You Care For Acne Care?

Different people have different types of skin. Acne prone skins are very sensitive skin types. Therefore, acne care must be given special attention by persons that have these skin types.

Acne sufferers follow a specific type of acne care depending on their skin type. They must be vigilant about the methods and products that they use.

Some skin types are sensitive to dyes, perfumes and chemicals in many beauty products. If you have mild to moderate acne, here are some acne care tips just for you:

Acne Care: Dealing With Problem Skin

1.Beauty Products

We have already heard of dry skin, oily skin and a combination skin. If you have acne, you may have decided that your skin type is either oily or combination. But actually, it’s neither of these. Acne prone skin falls into a completely different category: problem skin.

People prone to acne should choose beauty products specially made for acne. Don’t use any beauty products that have added dyes and perfumes, as these ingredients can seriously aggravate your blemishes.

2.Nutrition

There are a number of vitamins and minerals like mineral zinc, vitamins A, C, E and B-complex vitamins such as vitamin B6. These are often used to improve the look and condition of the skin and also in acne care because these are important for the health of the skin.

Eating foods that are rich in sulfur may also be helpful because it helps to cure acne. Garlic and onions both contain a good amount of sulfur. Your acne care provider may also recommend that you avoid eating sugar, fried foods, or foods that have a high fat content. Carbonated beverages with sugar should also be minimized or perhaps eliminated.

Acne Care: The Dos and Don’ts

Acne prone skin needs special care. Here are the dos and don’ts of acne skin care:

DO’s

? Gently wash your skin with warm water and a mild natural facial cleanser. Washing your skin twice a day will help to remove dirt and pollutants that could block pores.

? Choose oil free cosmetics and beauty products. Regular make-up contains fatty acids that are higher in fat than the fatty acids in your skin.

DON’Ts

? Over wash your skin. Excessive scrubbing will aggravate acne and causes more blemishes to open up and spread.

? Pick your skin. Never pick, squeeze or pop your acne blemishes. Squeezing a pimple or other blemish can cause permanent scarring. And breaking the scar can allow a secondary bacterial infection.

? Smoke. Cigarette smoke is a toxin that is destructive to the organs both inside and outside the body.

? Use skin toners. Skin toners provide extra cleansing to skin, but they are made of very drying ingredients such as alcohol and acetone that could be damaging to skin.

? Expose your skin to sun. Many people think that sunlight will improve acne. And while it’s true that some sun exposure may help dry up surface acne blemishes, prolonged sun exposure can damage skin and make acne worse in the long run.

People must be aware of the things that can cause acne so that it can be prevented. And for acne sufferers, they must always be aware of the things that can irritate their skin. A proper acne care starts with proper care of the skin.

Natural Acne Remedies

Some adults and teens who suffer from acne may refer to try cures that are natural instead of pharmaceutical. Here are some natural acne remedies.

One of the first things that a natural practitioner will tell you is that it’s what’s inside that counts. Although most dermatologists will tell you that what you eat has no effect on your skin, a healthy diet can have positive effects on your skin, as well as your life in general. Follow sensible guidelines. Drink six glasses of water a day. Try to find organic produce. Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Broil you food. Avoid fried foods. Eat fiber rich foods such as lentils and beans. Limit your alcohol intake. Go light on the caffeine, only two cups of tea or coffee a day. Stay away from sodas, too much sugar and caffeine. Along with a glowing and radiant complexion you might shed a few pounds along the way!

To go along with a healthier diet supplements are suggested. Here are some supplement suggestions. A good daily multi vitamin. Vitamin C. An antioxidant blend of A, C, E, zinc, selenium. A fatty acid supplement such as primrose oil or fish oil. It is suggested that you talk with a qualified nutritionist to help with deciding what supplements you should take.

Now you’ve taken care of the inside, there is work to do on the outside. Have a facial monthly. This will help keep your skin healthy and glowing. Your aesthetician will help you to identify your skin type and make recommendations about cleansers and moisturizers. This facial should include an exfoliation. If you suffer from acne as an adult you will still need to keep your skin moisturized. Make sure that you use an SPF on your skin everyday.

There is no such thing as an overnight cure for acne. Keep in mind that any treatment takes time. A healthy diet, added nutritional supplements and a well thought out cleaning regimen will help. Give any program you start on at least 6 to 8 weeks to show results.

Adult Acne – Teenagers Are Not the Only One Complaining

The International Journal of Cosmetic Science featured an article in 2004 which shed some light on the problem of adult acne. It seems that there has been a rise in the incidents of acne among adults, and usually the affliction lasts longer and requires longer and more stringent treatment. It has also been observed that women are twice as prone to acne as men. In fact, it is said that about 20% of the women between the age group of 25 and 40 suffer from acne problem.

It All Begins With that Innocent Blackhead

Yes, that tempting looking blackhead that you want to squeeze out is what kick starts the problem of adult acne. There are many people who believe that blackheads are dirt that somehow gets stuck inside the skin. That’s not true. Blackheads are formed when dead cells and oil clog the pores of the skin. When this mixture is exposed to air and gets mixed with the bacteria in the skin, it becomes black.

Inflammation of the blackhead leads to red pimples. If you finger it too often with your dirty hands, they will become infected and turns into whiteheads with pustules. These whiteheads are the ones that are most annoying, as they take longer to disappear and usually break and leave scars.

Take Good Care of Your Skin

Some people underestimate the benefits of a regular skin care routine and facials. They can indeed keep adult acne at bay. There are several products available in the market, which help to keep your skin clean and pimple free, such as exfoliating scrubs that contain alpha hydroxyl, cleansers with salicylic acids, and oil-free moisturizers and gels that either prevent eruptions or keep from aggravating your skin. In addition to this, every now and then, go in for regular facials, even you guys out there. Unless, you prefer to live with problem skin for a major part of your life.

Keep Stress at Bay

Stress is one of the major factors that cause acne. Adulthood seems to be defined by the amount of stress that one has to face everyday, be it at work, home, regarding finances and payment of bills, relationships, income tax, recession, lay-offs, etc. When you are stressed out, the oil glands in your body begin to produce more oil. And you don’t need to be a rocket scientist to figure out the connection between oil and adult acne. Therefore, stay cool!

There’s someone called a Dermatologist

He/she treats skin problems like adult acne. A lot of people delay going to dermatologists as they feel that over-the-counter medication may be able to solve the problem. And, then starts an experimentation mode, where they switch medication, go after treatments suggested by all and sundry, and usually end up feeling frustrated when the problem persists.

Not to say that these products don’t work. For some they do. But if you have a more severe problem, a dermatologist will be able to identify the kind of acne you have, and the most probable cause for it. Following that, he/she will prescribe a course of treatment that’s specific to your problem. This means, you aren’t going for a generic cure, but something that gets working on your problem immediately. Hence, you see faster results.

Having Facial Acne Issues As an Adult and Natural Ways to Help Cure It

When you become an adult, you tend to think your days of acne and pimples are past you, but for many people (especially some women) it is far from over. The causes of Acne are often wide and varied. The causes can stem from hormonal imbalances, eating a lot of the wrong food types, as well as stress, and obesity to name but a few.

The key to understanding and treating your acne comes from knowing yourself, and being able to subjectively look at your lifestyle, and identify the aspects that aren’t helping your skin.

Topical treatments may work for a temporary time, as might many other treatments, however these are usually short lived, and often they end up making the problem far worse.

What I have found to be the most successful treatment in a relatively short period of time is a more holistic approach to the treatment of your acne condition. What’s even more impressive is that it definitely works, but takes some work and effort on the part of the acne sufferer. It treats the acne condition not as a surface illness, but as a whole of body illness, which is exactly what it is.

When your body has an outburst of acne on the surface -it’s simply a reflection of an imbalance that is going on internally within your body, and the acne is simply the end result (the symptom).

To truly cure acne once and for all, you need to treat the root cause, and take a holistic natural approach to addressing the issues going on inside your body. Only then when you an achieve a true balance internally will your acne begin to clear up, allowing your skin to heal.

Treating Acne Without Drugs – Understanding Proper Cleansing and Treatment

In treating acne without drugs, or outside of a doctor’s office, there are three main factors that must be considered: enclosure, sebum (oil), and bacteria. I often find that people trying to rid themselves of acne focus heavily on one or two of the factors, instead of all three. Yet, for those with persistent acne, failure to address all three factors ultimately means failure to correct the problem.

What does this mean? For most people, its fairly simple: you must cleanse and treat.

You’re probably thinking, “yeah, duh, of course.” The fact is, cleansing is not so simple as some think. I often have people say, “I wash my face three times a day! My face is clean!” Unfortunately, cleansing this much or this often causes more harm than good. Over-washing and/or washing with abrasive or harsh chemicals leads to skin irritation, making the perfect environment for bacteria to enter into the skin, mingle with the oil, and produce more acne.

Also, most cleansers do not address the issue of enclosure, where the dead skin cells impact together, trapping bacteria and oil inside. Many people are hesitant to use a facial moisturizer, with the fear that their skin will become more oily and more prone to breakouts. Again, this results in over-irritation to the face, especially when harsh treatment products are being used.

The real issue, then, is cleansing and treating in the right way with the right products. Using a cleanser that contains either alpha-hydroxy acids or, if you would like something more gentle, fruit enzymes, to remove dead skin cells and enter into the pore to rid it of bacteria without over-drying is the paramount first step. Masking to pull impurities, then moisturizing, are next, with products that will reinforce a matte, luminous, and more uniform appearance while healing the skin.

For most people, this means avoiding many over the counter and even prescription products that are so harsh that they actually inflame skin further. Think about it: acne is already an inflammation of the skin, the last thing you want to do is make it worse!

Ultimately, the point for those with persistent acne is to ensure that the skin is clean, but also that products are use which soothe instead of inflame. This small change can make a big difference!
